We provide pathways to a professional career in the built environment through qualifications, programmes and accrediting courses that meet our standards. Below you will find a list of the qualifications for which the CIOB is an awarding organisation as well as university degrees that are accredited by us.
Vocational qualifications
These assess your competence in the job as part of the qualification. They include National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs), apprenticeships and site management qualifications. Vocational qualifications are suitable for people who prefer not to study full-time or wish to earn while they learn. Gaining such qualifications is useful for career progression and to indicate that you are competent in certain essential skills, such as site safety. CITB grants may be available to eligible employers whose candidates complete these courses. You may also wish to look into adult learning loans.

Certificate in Technical Support for Public Service Building Standards
The CIOB Certificate in Technical Support for Public Service Building Standards is designed for local authority building control administrative staff dealing with the building control function on a day to day basis.
Diploma in Construction Site Management
The Site Management qualification comprises of two qualifications; the Certificate in Construction Site Management and the Diploma in Construction Site Management.
Diploma in Public Service Building Control Surveying
The CIOB Diploma in Public Service Building Control Surveying is designed for building control officers working in the construction sector who are able to deal with new housing, low and high-rise apartments and commercial and industrial projects.
Certificate in Fire Safety for Construction
The CIOB Certificate in Fire Safety for Construction is designed for a range of construction related occupations including duty holder roles such as Building Safety Manager and project managers working on higher risk buildings.
Certificate in Site Management
This certificate is perfect for supervisors and assistant site managers working in the construction sector who are progressing into a construction site manager role.
Graduate Conversion Certificate
This qualification provides a pathway to Chartership if you have a degree in a subject not related to construction. On completion of this qualification, it will shorten your journey so you can apply and could be Chartered in three years.
Diploma in Public Service Building Control Surveying
The CIOB Diploma in Public Service Building Control Surveying is designed for new Building Control officers working in the construction sector who are able to deal with domestic extensions and alterations.

CIOB Accredited Degrees
The CIOB accredits foundation (FdSc), undergraduate (BSc) and postgraduate (MSc) programmes with universities and other higher education institutions in the UK and around the world. Accreditation is our seal of approval for the teaching institute, signifying that it reaches the highest standards and will provide you with the skills and knowledge for a career in the global construction industry. Undertaking an accredited undergraduate or postgraduate course is not a requirement to achieve full Chartered membership, but our accreditation means that those courses are guaranteed to provide a route to full membership (MCIOB).
About Approved Centres
CIOB is one of the few professional institutes that offers its own nationally recognised qualifications. The Diploma in Site Supervisory Studies and the Certificate and Diploma in Site Management courses are registered with the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual) under the Regulatory Qualifications Framework (RQF). As a regulatory organisation, we adhere to the criteria and standards as set by the overseeing authority.
