What We Do
We have a role in the management, leadership, education and development of our industry. For our members, guiding and educating them as they embark on their careers. For policymakers, defining the standards for all to meet. For the public, creating an environment they can live and work in safely, comfortably and confidently.
Our Royal Charter commits us to work in the public interest.
This means we campaign on the major issues, which today includes eradicating modern slavery from the industry, improving the quality of the built environment, ensuring the right skills, talent and behaviours are nurtured in construction, and that our environment is protected through more energy-efficient buildings and less-wasteful construction practices.

Our Influence
We work on many varied agendas and not solely in the interest of members, but crucially in the interest of the public. A core part of our remit is to advance knowledge, innovation and research within construction. That means we challenge the industry to be the best it can possibly be.
What is Membership?
The CIOB is the most influential professional body for construction management and leadership, with around 50,000 members in more than 100 countries. Our members work in disciplines that cover the entire lifecycle of a built asset and even in the education and development of the next generation of professionals.
Chartered Membership provides you with recognition of your abilities, knowledge and experience within the industry, creating more exciting career opportunities. Chartered Members also enjoy benefits such as access to over 500 events every year, free CPD resources from the CIOB Academy, complimentary subscription to Construction Manager Magazine and access to our Library Information Service.
We welcome applications from all types of construction professionals, from surveyors to conservationists, engineers to HR specialists, designers to lecturers.
