Who We Are

We are the Chartered Institute of Building, and we stand for the science, ethics and practice of built environments across the world. Everything we do is to improve the quality of life for those using and creating the built environment.

The Chartered Institute of Building is at the heart of a management and leadership career in the built environment.

We are the world's largest and most influential professional body for construction management and leadership. We have a Royal Charter to promote the science and practice of building and construction for the benefit of society, and we've been doing that since 1834. Our members work worldwide in the development, conservation, and improvement of the built environment. They represent the entire lifecycle of a built asset and in the infrastructure, we utilise in our everyday lives.

Our Vision

Improve the quality of life for the users and creators of our built environment.

Our Mission

We drive up professional standards, push forward innovation, influence political decisions and strengthen talent across the CIOB global community.

Who are our Members?

Our members past and present have been responsible for many ground-breaking projects across the world. We have the most diverse membership of any professional body in the built environment. Our members work in disciplines that cover the entire lifecycle of a built asset and even in the education and development of the next generation of professionals.

Chartered members are construction professionals with a common commitment to achieve and maintain the highest possible standards. Chartered Member status, and the designations MCIOB and FCIOB, are recognised and respected internationally as the mark of true construction professionalism.
