Women continuing to break barriers in construction
“Progress, though slow, is happening.”
Hollie began her career in the rail industry in 2004 and progressed into a commercial role as a Quantity Surveyor (QS) before moving into a project management role delivering rail signalling projects.
Her curiosity led her to ask why she was the only female project manager (PM) and the only female in meetings, as well as why there were no female engineers. She then offered to help her then-employer VolkerWessels UK to accelerate their EDI journey. Within 18 months, she led the business to achieve its first external accreditation, “Investors in Diversity” (IID), a certification they then retained, as well as winning “Engineering Company of the Year” two years in a row and moving from 74th to 8th position in the Top 100 most inclusive organisations.
In 2016, Hollie was voted one of the 20 most inspirational women in rail by Women In Rail.
She represented the VolkerWessels UK business on various client-led industry forums, significantly the Rail Industry Association (RIA) and National Highways Supplier Diversity Forum. She has been recognised as an impressive influencer championing the company to achieve several Diversity Awards.
Hollie joined GRAHAM in May 2021, and has since led company in achieving the Leaders in Diversity Gold Award, the appointment of over 100 FIR Ambassadors across the GRAHAM Group, and the emergence of several staff networks – which all help drive cultural transformation as well as providing a sense of belonging for staff.
Moreover, GRAHAM recently won the Investors in People, Diversity & Inclusion award and was judged as the Number one company in the National Centre for Diversity’s Top 100 Most Inclusive Workplaces 2024.
