Amplifying your views and opinions
At every level of the CIOB are opportunities for our members to influence and shape the direction of the Institute. All the way up to where the big decisions get made by Trustee’s.
Members’ Forum is our annual platform for members all around the world to have their views and opinions heard, and where the CIOB poses questions and seeks deeper feedback on new and existing issues. It’s the place where the CIOB Academy was designed and formed, where our response to modern slavery took shape and where we have posed changes to core things like how people join us.
It’s no exaggeration to say that this weeklong event is one of the most important in the CIOB’s calendar.
Despite the pandemic we are committed to making sure this platform continues, and while we can’t meet physically again, we are meeting virtually for the week. This year that means around 75 members from around the globe will be getting together to discuss the big-ticket items. Those members represent all areas of CIOB membership in all the markets we have a presence and from various initiatives like our company membership and training partnerships.
This year our Forum will involve networking sessions, best practice and ideas exchanges, and updates from some of the key projects that the CIOB is working on. That will include updates from our Governance Review project, the Non-Chartered Grade project, our latest work on improving quality in construction, the 2030 Visionary Group, the Entry Grade Value Proposition project, and updates from the CIOB Benevolent Fund. The Forum will also be the first audience to see the exciting work going on to develop a CIOB Mobile App.
There are also some other very important announcements. We will be welcoming our new President Mike Foy OBE into office and getting a soundcheck from members in our EGM and AGM meetings.
In a normal year our Forum includes various site meetings so that delegates can experience a new project, often in a different country. Even though we cannot make that happen physically we are delighted to include a couple of virtual site visits, one from Sydney and the other from a site in the UK. Over the last few years our Members’ Forum has run in parallel with our Global Student Challenge, so that the next generation of construction professionals can connect with existing leaders. During this weeks Forum the competition will be in its final phase and will end on Friday with the winners being announced.
