In the Limelight: The CIOB Student Festival April 2021

CIOB’s very first Student Festival is being delivered on the 7 and 8 April 2021. We are so excited to be launching a virtual festival designed to celebrate, inspire and inform our student members across the globe.

This two-day festival will provide an insight from industry and academic leaders across the spectrum where students will hear of personal reflection, industry best practice and career guidance to utilise in the future.

We would like you, our academic community, to encourage your students to sign up and participate in the event where they will have the opportunity to:

1. Network with other CIOB student members

The pandemic has created a social challenge; students have remained isolated and this festival aims to break that isolation and help build social networks. The CIOB has over 7000 student members globally. On a professional level, meeting like-minded students early on can make all the difference to confidence levels.  

The Student Festival has been designed to welcome and inspire our student community, with an array of speakers and sessions, students can take their pick and attend what they feel is most relevant to them. Break-out sessions will be available to hop in and out of and there will also be a virtual networking space to hold in-depth conversations and ask questions to their heart’s content.

Finally, all students attending the festival have one thing in common; the built environment. These student members could be future festival contributors, or simply use it to get to know others and build friendships from across the world.

2. Meet leaders in the Built Environment sector

The key to seeking graduate and higher-level roles in the sector is to know what is going on in the industry. The Student Festival has collaborated with high profile representatives from the construction sector who have a wealth of industry knowledge and experience and can be a source of inspiration. Listening to inspiring leaders in the construction field can provide students with invaluable advice and insights about what to expect post-graduation.

3. Develop skills and learn something new

The Student Festival will allow students to build on their all-important skills including presentation and communication skills by listening and observing experienced industry professionals. Students will be hearing from their peers from diverse backgrounds on a range of topics they may have never heard of. The Student Festival aims to bring to the forefront topics that are current, innovative and enterprising.

4. Have fun!

The Student Festival aims to bring a light-hearted approach to a serious and essential sector. Students attending the festival can expect to discover facts, hindsight and invaluable advice from our programme contributors. It will be a chance to learn something new, engage in high-level debates and the chance to see the speaker behind the job title.
