Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL)
As a current Associate or Incorporated Member, you could be eligible to progress to Professional Review through the new APEL Process.
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning
CIOB offers various tailored pathways for ACIOB and ICIOB members to become Chartered, including a time-limited Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) pathway to Chartership. APEL will rigorously assess your practical experience and knowledge in lieu of a Level 6 qualification.
Structure
APEL is a process that allows individuals to gain recognition for their previous experiences and skills. The process involves completing a form to briefly outline relevant experiences (30-60 minutes), followed by an interview (about 60 minutes) with a provider to assess readiness for the Professional Review (PR).
The APEL process is not a qualification or a learning program but a formal assessment of a candidate's knowledge and skills. Candidates undergo an interview with an assessor, who evaluates whether their experience meets the required standards. If the candidate meets the criteria, they pass the APEL and can proceed to the Professional Review. If there are gaps, the assessor may recommend further formal learning, such as CIOB's Chartered Membership Programme or an NVQ.
