Digital Badges
Verifying construction excellence
CIOB Digital Badges, powered by Credly, are a modern way to showcase your verified skills and achievements.
These badges reflect a commitment to enhancing professionalism and promoting competence within the built environment industry.
They provide an easy way to showcase your competence to employers, clients and peers; increase your visibility by sharing your professional achievements on LinkedIn, your CV or even in your email signature; and build trust as each badge is a verified mark of quality and excellence within the built environment.
The digital badges will initially be introduced in mid-2025 for our highest level of achievement: those who have achieved Fellowship (FCIOB), Membership (MCIOB) or TechCIOB status.

What are Digital Badges?
An Introduction to Digital Badges with CIOB's Director of Membership, Ruth Kennedy-Green.
How it works
-
During the initial rollout, all Chartered members (MCIOB, FCIOB), and those who hold TechCIOB, will receive an email from Credly, inviting them to set up an account to access their badge. They are then given a range of options to share this via social media, and to embed it on their website and email signatures.
-
Each badge includes a unique link to a Credly webpage that contains verifiable metadata that confirms what, where, and how someone earned that credential, and how long it is valid for. Clients and customers can click on the badge to view this metadata.
-
By issuing digital badges, we’re helping badge earners clearly demonstrate their expertise and accomplishments to employers, peers, and clients, as well as allowing clients to verify these achievements and certifications.
-
The badges are portable and shareable across platforms such as LinkedIn, email signatures, and digital resumes, making it easier to communicate achievements in a dynamic and digital-first professional world. These badges also align with broader trends in workforce development, enabling professionals to highlight relevant skills in emerging fields and build credibility within their networks.
-
By adopting digital badges, we are supporting both individual career advancement and the continued growth of the built environment sector, ensuring that verified competence is easily visible and widely recognised.

Clients wishing to verify the Chartered status of Members not currently using digital badges can still contact our customer services team.
