Summary

What does social value mean in construction? Let us cut the jargon, explore its impact and learn how to deliver real, measurable outcomes.

In a world of acronyms, buzzwords and shifting expectations, what does social value really mean for the construction industry? Is it CSR? ESG? Or something entirely different?

Join us for this joint venture with CIOB and ARU Peterborough for an engaging and interactive session designed to help construction professionals cut through the jargon, understand the impact of social value and learn how to deliver it effectively.

Through a panel discussion with industry specialists and interactive discussions, we will explore what social value looks like when put into practice in our industry. Why does it matter to your business? How can you start to achieve measurable outcomes that benefit communities and go beyond the build?

This is your chance to ask questions, share challenges and gain practical insights from experts and industry peers. Whether you’re just starting your social value journey or looking to streamline your approach, this event will leave you inspired, informed and ready to build better.

Let’s move beyond the buzzwords and deliver real value.

Joanne Stark | LinkedIn – Assistant Head of 6th Form and 6th Form Careers Lead at Arthur Mellows

I have been a teacher for over 20 years, originally teaching Adult Numeracy and converting to my Degree Specialism of Business and Economics in Secondary Schools. I started my career at Peterborough Regional College, working closely with the construction and beauty departments, teaching their Apprentices Key Skills. When starting to work in schools I have worked with students in Sixth Form helping them to achieve A Levels and then move onto their chosen path post 18. Since moving to AMVC I have been responsible for the Apprenticeship Pathway in Year 13. As an Outstanding Sixth Form there was very little in the way of direction for those students’ seeking employment after A Levels. Within this role I have developed relationships with our local Careers Hub the CPCA which has led me to develop the ‘Preparation for Employment’ pathway option for our students. Its success is down to our relationship with local Apprenticeship providers and Employers, which has clearly elevated the profile of Apprenticeships at the school – now seen as the ‘go to’ pathway choice for students. The 2023-2024 school year was our most popular and successful year yet with some 16 + students securing varying levels of Apprenticeships with local and national employers Site Management with Morgan Sindall, Supply Chain Development with Perkins, Media Production at Zest Communications and Civil Engineering at Milestone Infrastructure.
