The latest on our governance review
Following Members' Forum last month, I wanted to share the latest update on our governance review project.
As part of implementing the recommendations of the 2020 Governance Review, I am pleased to let you know that the new Hub Regulations were approved by the Board of Trustees at the last meeting in June. These new regulations have been informed by focus groups held in March, with support for key proposals subsequently tested though a Hub Committee survey in April, and the Governance Review Work Group, prior to recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
The new Hub Regulations include:
- Flexibility for established Hubs to have committee sizes between 3 and 10 to include representation from Tomorrow’s Leaders
- A new Terms of Reference for the committee to reflect the current and future work of the local Hubs
- A new recruitment process to guide recruitment of new committee members locally, as opposed to the current central process
- A new recruitment process to guide the recruitment of Hub Chairs, which is similar to the new process for recruiting new committee members, but with involvement of a representative from the Nominations Committee (please note: the feedback received through the March focus groups resulted in a change to the original recommendation, which was to recruit local Hub Chairs through an election process)
- All local Hubs reporting directly to Members’ Forum due to the removal of the Regional Hub from the governance structure
Next steps – Transition to the new Hub Regulations
Local Hub teams are now undertaking an assessment of the requirements of their Hubs, which will inform the development of a transition plan for each local Hub, which we aim to finalise by the end of July. Thereafter we will commence transition activities with the aim of being fully transitioned and aligned across the entire Hub network by June 2022.
Hub Committee Recruitment
A key change is the alignment of the Hub Committee timetable with the governance year, which runs from June to June. This means that all existing Hub Committee members and other roles will start and end their tenure in June of each year. There is not a "one size fits all" for our local Hubs and tenures will be discussed with each Local Hub team.
