Professional Development Programme

The Professional Development Programme (PDP) is available for graduates or students who do not possess the required experience within the industry to take the Professional Review but want to progress to Chartered Membership via a structured and assessed route

Content

While in the programme candidates will assemble a portfolio of work to show they meet certain key competencies across 12 specific units. All work is submitted online using a system that allows you to track your progress. The units you will work towards include: project planning, managing health, and safety and welfare in the workplace.

Duration

It usually takes between one and three years to complete the programme. However, it will depend on your circumstances and employer.

Fees

Please check our Fees page for current information on applicant and PDP fees for your country or region.

Eligibility

To register for the PDP, you will need to have a degree or be working towards a degree. You will be eligible if you are:

  • A graduate with a construction-related honours degree, including a non-accredited degree
  • A graduate with a non-construction related honours degree and working within the industry
  • A part-time student undertaking a construction related degree
  • An International graduate with accredited degrees or a CIOB membership via an Individual Assessment.

Please note that candidates who apply for the PDP who have a non-construction related degree must complete three years in industry before they can become chartered.

You also need to be working in a suitable role, such as a junior management position within the built environment or construction industry.

Upon successful completion of the programme you will gain full Chartered Member status and will be able to use the designation of MCIOB.

Employers can benefit in a number of ways from supporting their employees in the PDP. Their graduates will be better qualified and more experienced, with increased job satisfaction and an active, positive attitude towards career management.
