Felipe Manzatucci from Skanska and Ryan Close from WYG complete their one year Chartered Institute of Building scholarships by presenting their findings to a specially invited audience in London today.

The Sir Ian Dixon and Faculty of Architecture & Surveying scholarships are the CIOB’s industry scholarship programmes, delivered in partnership with the Worshipful Company of Constructors. Each award offers a one-year research fund of £3,000 for the scholar to produce a piece of research that benefits the industry, themselves and their company. It provides an opportunity for employers to develop the potential of their individuals and for the scholars to display their leadership qualities.

This year’s Sir Ian Dixon scholar Felipe Manzatucci has over 8 years’ experience in designing structures for major projects in the custodial and education sectors. His passion for improving the built environment led him to write an award winning master’s degree dissertation on modular construction. His scholarship research analyses how the implementation of industrialised building concepts can improve the delivery of construction projects.

In contrast Ryan Close, Faculty of Architecture & Surveying scholar, looked at providing guidance for home owners who want to install renewable technologies, in particular Ground Source Heat Pumps and Biomass Boilers. Ryan is Building Surveyor with a working knowledge of the nuclear industry and the private and public sector.

Bob Heathfield Past President of the CIOB and chair of the SID & FAS Scholarship Panel said: “Both Felipe and Ryan have proved themselves to be very diligent and committed throughout the scholarship programme.  To combine the scholarships with full time employment is certainly not easy and requires the full support of their sponsoring companies, Skanska and WYG.

“Their chosen topics have been thoroughly researched with outcomes that will not only be of value to the scholars, and sponsoring companies, but also to the wider public. Felipe and Ryan have been excellent scholars, and I have no doubt that the experience gained throughout the programme will serve them in good stead as they progress their individual careers within our industry.”
