In homage to the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy the Chartered Institute of Building has published a video guide that introduces its range of online services.

The CIOB produces websites and online platforms that deliver industry news, CPD, events, campaigns, awards, jobs, learning and leading specialist portals focused on topics like Building Information Modelling.  These online services attract more than 1.5 million visits a year.

“We are responding to the increasing demand from members and the industry who want greater engagement and transactions with us online; said Saul Townsend Head of Communications at the CIOB.

“While our video falls short of answering the ultimate questions about life, the universe and everything. It does show what is on offer online from the CIOB and we hope encourages users to explore our websites. There is plenty to take advantage of for those who want to stay ahead of the competition with the latest news, knowledge and career opportunities.”

The video which is 7 minutes long describes more than 10 websites from the CIOB in the style of the 1980s BBC television adaptation of the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy written by Douglas Adams.

Back in June 2013 the CIOB re-launched its flagship website ciob.org and has followed that up with development to the online version of its news portals Construction Manager (construction-manager.co.uk) and Global Construction Review (globalconstructionreview.com).

New portals have been developed that promote issues like sustainability (carbonaction2050.com) and constructions value to society and government (policy.ciob.org); and which inform members, and the industry, on key topics such as BIM (bim.construction-manager.co.uk).

The CIOB has also invested in building greater online access to its learning and knowledge base through virtual learning environments like Moodle and the development of its Continuing Professional Development (CPD) platform (construction-manager.co.uk/cpd).
