CIOB signs agreement with Gold Seal Certification program

The Chartered Institute of Building has signed a joint certification agreement with the Gold Seal Certification program run by the Canadian Construction Association.

Through the agreement CIOB chartered members (MCIOB) are recognised as meeting the educational requirements for Gold Seal Certification.  This certification for the management of construction projects demonstrates expertise, industry commitment and ensures practitioners are able to meet the demands of construction projects across Canada.

“This is good news for the Canadian Construction Association and the CIOB,” said Chris Blythe Chief Executive at the CIOB. “But more importantly this is good news for those members who are pursuing a professional career in Canada’s growing construction industry.”

As part of the agreement, CIOB Members pursuing Gold Seal Certification will have met the programs educational requirements through their MCIOB designation. In order to achieve Gold Seal Certification, candidates need to demonstrate 5 years of specific industry experience of which a minimum of two must be Canadian.

“The Chartered Institute of Building has more than 400 members in North and South America, and see the growth potential in the North American construction industries,” said Barry Brown, Chair of the National Gold Seal Committee. “This agreement will encourage those members to pursue Gold Seal Certification, while further recognising the important role that Gold Seal plays in the Canadian construction industry.”

As part of the agreement existing Gold Seal Certificate holders in Canada are eligible for Incorporate Membership status bringing them closer towards chartered membership.

The agreement was signed at the George Brown College in Toronto as part of a tour of the Americas by CIOB leadership. The visit is part of the institute’s strategic plan to support industry and projects across the region.
