Sustainability pioneer Ian Pritchett was honoured with the Sustainability Award at this year’s Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) Awards, in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to low-carbon construction.
Pritchett, now of Greencore Homes, was praised for his commitment to responsible building practices across his illustrious construction career, spanning more than three decades.
Judges recognised his innovation, leadership and commitment to sustainable development, from advancing the use of lime mortars in new-build homes to counter the environmental toll of cement, to leading the development of high-performance, low-impact housing.
Speaking after receiving his award at London’s Hilton Metropole Hotel on Thursday 15 May, Pritchett said: “This award is recognition of the teams I’ve had the privilege to work with over the years, and proof that building better, healthier, lower-carbon homes within the One Planet Living framework—isn’t just possible, it’s essential.”
Beyond his work, Pritchett shares his knowledge generously, delivering workshops and publishing widely to help spark a cultural shift towards sustainability across the built environment.
Amanda Williams, Head of Environmental Sustainability at CIOB, added: “Ian’s work over the last 30 plus years is a wonderful example of the kind of bold thinking and long-term vision that our industry needs.
“He has led by example for decades, pushing boundaries, inspiring change, and proving sustainability and quality can exist in tandem. We are very proud to recognise his incredible contributions with this year’s Sustainability Award.”
The CIOB Awards celebrate individuals and teams who have delivered exceptional outcomes in construction management. Pritchett joins an esteemed group of industry leaders recognised for their excellence at this year’s event.
